The combination of correctness of answer selection and
self-assessed confidence level would be analysed by the
Learnsmart platform to adaptively determine the next set
of quiz content to offer to the student. For example, a
student who answered the quiz correctly, and knew
he/she would, would be considered as the ideal outcome,
being knowledgeable and neither overconfident nor
underconfident. In comparison, students who answered
the quiz incorrectly, but thought they knew the answer,
would be construed as having a lower level of awareness
of their learning. Such overconfident students are
theoretically at higher risk of performing poorly without
intervention or adaptive support.
When students submit their quiz responses, they would
receive immediate feedback in the form of the answer
key, along with accompanying explanations, which they
could review and learn from on their own.
In a survey conducted by CTE, some comments from
students who rated the digital textbook as useful in
guiding them to learn are excerpted as follows:
◊ The specific content to learn is highlighted and
hence we can quickly grasp the concept without
wandering too much over the entire chapter.
◊ The quizzes help to validate that I've properly
understood the concepts.
◊ I felt that digital textbook further explained the
materials given in the Prof's lecture slides.
